Introduction:
An educational visit was conducted on 3.4.18 of microbiology students to an advanced diagnostic laboratory, SRL Diagnostics. It aimed to focus the diagnostic techniques which are recently added to the routine diagnostic field of microbiology, biochemistry, and pathology. Students were exposed to different new diagnostic tools and machines used in various lab.
The following machines were shown to the students which includes there working, principle and interpretation:
Biochemistry:
Clinitek Status
Easylyte plus
Pathology:
Coulter counter
Hormone analyser (Rosch)
Microbiology:
Autoclave
Hot air oven
Colony counter
Advanced BOD incubator
Advanced diagnostic kits (Syphilis, HIV, HCV, HBsAg, VDRL, Malaria etc.)
Learning Outcomes:
This visit resulted as a great source of knowledge which students gained by getting exposed to various machines which were highly useful in current diagnostic scenario.
Students were taken to different sections of the laboratory including collection centre. They were taught the various techniques of sample collection, there preservation and processing.
Students came to know about the waste segregation which includes the segregation and disposal of waste material including processed specimen like stool, urine, tissue etc.
