World Sight Day 2024 – Love Your Eyes

Eyes that allow you to see by capturing visible light from the beautiful world around you and turn it into a form sense. Willian Shakespeare once said, “The eyes are the window to your soul.”

This means that it immediately reflects our emotions, our fear, anger, and happiness. We do not just look at something with our eyes; we can also communicate with everybody, and we reveal our character. Eyes are the most precious organ of the body; they are the eyes that let you watch your friends, read beautiful words in a novel, and see the Eiffel Tower. The eyes are not only the window of your soul but also the window of your health, so taking care of it is our responsibility, and we can take this responsibility only when we love our eyes. So, we can see the world as if we have only one pair of it.

So many questions arise from here, like

  • do you love your eyes?
  • do you treasure your ability to see, easily navigate, and interact with the world to learn, work, connect, and play without a visual barrier?

It may sound odd to say, “Yes, I am in love with my eyes,” but loving them is actually meant to be how we treat them, take care of them, protect them, and appreciate them. The eyes are just like a lamp of our body. When our eyes are good, our whole body is also full of light, but when they are bad, our body is also full of darkness.

How to Love Your Eyes

A pledge to get your child’s eyes tested by a professional

A lifestyle to prioritize eye health through regular eye exams and working in a body-friendly way when using a digital screen

Spend Time Outside

Children should spend at least two hours a day outside, which helps their eyes develop healthily and also avoid developing near-sightedness.

Wear Sunglasses Outside

Make sure your sunglasses offer UVA and UVB protection to prevent radiation from the sun.

Wear Prescription Glasses if You Need Them

You should wear your prescription glasses to see clearly and prevent your eyes from eyestrain and headaches.

Follow the 20/20/20 rules to give your Eyes Screen Breaks

When using a screen, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes to avoid eyestrain and headache.

Exercise Regularly

Doing regular exercise can reduce developing conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, which can affect your sight.

Check your cosmetics to avoid eye infections.

Check the expiration date on eye makeup, and replace your brushes regularly to prevent the growth of bacteria that cause eye infections.

Eat healthy diet

Eating a balanced diet ensures you have the vitamins and minerals that are essential for maintaining healthy eyes.

Don’t Smoke

smoking increases the risk of serious eye conditions that result in permanent loss of sight.

It would help if you had your eyes checked every one to two years out. Reminder in your calendar or book an eye test to detect problems before they arise.

ENSURING YOUR CHILD’S CLEAR VISION

The clarity of child division is an important aspect that needs attention by parenthood. It is completely up to parents to create an environment that maintains the health of their children’s eyes. Some of the steps are

It’s important to understand the developmental stages of a child’s vision. For example, academic performance is affected by common problems like farsightedness and astigmatism. So, to maintain healthy vision, schedule regular eye exams.

Make sure your home has enough natural light and encourage outdoor activity to expose children to sunlight. Natural light is a fundamental factor aiding visual development. Proper lighting is important when reading and using a screen. Implement the 20/20/20 rule to help reduce eye strain.

Nutrition plays an important role in spotting children’s vision, so vitamins A, C, and E, as well as minerals, suggest adding zinc to the diet. Carrot leafy greens and fruits are excellent choices. Adequate fluid intake supports overall health, including eye lubrication.

Routine eye exams are necessary for early detection of potential problems, which can prevent complications that affect a child’s quality of life.

Balancing screen time without door activity is a delicate task in today’s digital age. Too much screen time can lead to digital eye strain and CVS (Computer vision syndrome), so encourage your child to play outdoors; that’s your children’s overall eye health.

Make sure your child wears proper eye protection during sports activities and certain recreational activities.

Teach your children the importance of eye care and cultivation habits that contribute to their eye health. Encourage practices like blinking regularly, taking breaks between screen time, and refraining from excessive eye rubbing.

Let’s commit to helping our children see the world clearly, adopt healthy habits, and embrace life with clarity and confidence. Schedule regular eye exams and a vibrant future with practical solutions.
