EYE CANCER
Eye cancer / ocular cancer can affect the outer part of the eye as well as inner part of the eye. If the cancer that affect the eye itself, it’s called intraocular cancer. Eye cancer is of two types:
Primary Eye Cancer –It starts with in the eye
Secondary Eye Cancer –It spreads to the eye from another part of body. For example, in women this is most likely to happen with breast cancer, while in men this is most likely to happen with lung cancer.
The major parts of eye from which cancer start are as follow.
Vitreous Humours, Orbit, Adnexal structure like Eyelid, Tear Gland.
STAGES OF EYE CANCER
STAGE I – Tumour is small (less than 3mm) doesn’t involve other part of eye nor spreading.
STAGE II – Size slightly larger than STAGE I, still not spreading.
STAGE III – Tumour size is large & has spread to other part of eye.
SIGN & SYMPTOMS
- Shadows, flashes of light, blurred vision, partial or complete loss of vision
- Bulging of eye, dark patch in your eye, a Lump or a nodule in your eyelid.
RISK FACTORS FOR DEVELOPING EYE CANCER
- Age factor – around50 yrs. are most likely to be diagnosed with primary intraocular melanoma, very rare in children.
- Race-more common in white people.
- Gender- equals in both men and women
- Depending upon individual history of ocular or oculodermal melanocytosis (pigmentation of eye or skin around the eye also called NEVUS OF OTA.

Mole in eye, multiple flat moles that are irregular in shape or colour.
